SlySoft, best known for its DRM circumvention software AnyDVD, appears to have shut down operations, going by the terse message left on its website. “Recent regulatory requirements” are apparently the reason for the closure.
Even “terse” is too strong a word. The site itself is gone, with the following text left in its place:
Due to recent regulatory requirements we have had to cease all activities relating to SlySoft Inc.
We wish to thank our loyal customers/clients for their patronage over the years.
The company’s official forums are still up however, where SlySoft employee “Tom” was able to provide slightly more information:
Hi all,
We were not allowed to respond to any request nor to post any statement, but now it is official … I am really sorry for that, but this is final. SlySoft is gone…
Thanks to all our customers and supporters for their loyalty.
Goodbye red fox…
Tom
While SlySoft’s applications won’t suddenly stop working, it might be time to consider alternatives. gHacks has a solid list complied, if you’d like to check it out.

Well its been a long battle, sad to see em go.
RIP Red Fox
Kind of blows. I don’t know what kind of victory anyone thinks was won here, there are plenty of alternatives. MakeMKV is my go-to. While it is in beta you can get a key from their forums.
If Slysoft got shut down, logic dictates the same people will be going after Slysoft alternatives, which will include Makemkv. I was thinking about purchasing Makemkv before I realised this.
Annnnnd Slysoft is back as RedFox. No victory.
It’s only an alternative if you used it for ripping discs. Personally, I used AnyDVD HD (initially) as I did not have an HDCP compliant TV and it removed this requirement. Nowdays I use it to present an (unencrypted) network drive to remote video players (like Kodi on my laptop) from an original disc.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
They will come back. It is only a matter of time…
What was the last working update version to Anydvd, and does anyone have it? If so, write it on this forum.
