Make Super Flavourful Sprinkles At Home With Freeze-Dried Raspberries

Sprinkles make every dessert a bit more fun, but they don’t add a ton of flavour beyond sweetness. For sprinkles that are pretty and delicious, try making your own with tart and tasty freeze-dried raspberries.

Beyond being delicious, these colourful little bits are also pretty easy to make. Just take half a cup of freeze-dried raspberries and pulse them in the food processor until they are fine, pink powder. Run the powder — along with about 1/4 cup of icing sugar — through a sifter to remove the seeds, and mix it in with 1/2 teaspoon of dried egg whites that have been hydrated with a tablespoon of warm water. Add in a little lemon extract, and stir until you have smooth, thick mixture. Pour into a piping bag, and pipe out lines, letters or whatever shapes you desire onto a surface lined with parchment paper. Let the sprinkles dry overnight, and use them to adorn cupcakes, ice cream or your morning yogurt (because mornings are terrible and you deserve to start your day with sprinkles).
